Sarah TROUCHE (born in 1983) - Lot 230
Sarah TROUCHE (born in 1983)
"Faccia a faccia Venni vidi vissi"
Two casts of a man’s head, one in bronze and the other in wax
Bronze signed and stamped by the foundry: Avangini
Numbered 1/8
H.: 23 cm; W.: 12 cm; D.: 20 cm
Provenance: Vanessa Quang Gallery
Sarah Truché presents a cathartic work through the creation of these two human heads. The source of inspiration is the physical assault the artist suffered during one of her performances abroad. A desire to reclaim her body, and in particular her face. She explores the body’s resilience as it regenerates, echoing the work of neuropsychiatrist Boris Cyrulnik. This creative process is also driven by political and social motivations, as it challenges the way women’s bodies are viewed in our society. Echoing the violence depicted in the works of Niki de Saint-Phalle, the artist replicates her use of firearms to create destruction. She thus creates faces distorted by the impact of bullets in soap sculptures, which are then cast in bronze. Sarah Truché freezes these faces like death masks.
