Zoé RUMEAU and Émilie BAZUS - Lot 239
Zoé RUMEAU and Émilie BAZUS I Don't Like the Sea, 2018 Print on paper Dated, numbered 45/100 35 x 26 cm The work is part of a 2018 exhibition that focused on the theme of immigration. It is a stylistic exploration of the representation of makeshift dwellings built by migrants in the city of Calais. The choice of a saturated color palette signifies a state of transition in these people’s lives, while the light—which seems unreal—reflects the instability and uncertainty they face. It also sheds light on the humanity of these migrants, who demonstrate resilience, solidarity, and ingenuity in building these shelters. However, the artists chose not to depict any inhabitants, in an effort to generalize their representation. 25% voluntary fee (including tax)
